What it costs
I would rather be transparent about money from the start than have you guessing. These are real starting figures, and nothing is hidden in the small print.
Every quote you get from me is fixed and itemised before any work begins, so you know exactly what you are paying for. No surprise invoices, no scope creep landing on your bill at the end.

Care and hosting
Hosting
UK hosting on a managed server, your SSL certificate, daily backups, domain management and uptime monitoring. Every site I look after sits on this. Hosting keeps your site online and backed up. Looking after what is on it is what a care plan does, so if something needs fixing and you are not on a plan, that is charged at £75 an hour.
£295/year
Essential Care, add on
No content changes included, those are quoted whenever you need one. Site updates every month, covering WordPress core, your theme and every plugin. Security monitoring and vulnerability patching. Compatibility checks after every update. Weekly backups, broken link monitoring, and a health report each quarter.
+£180/year
Silver Care, add on
Four content changes a year, one at each quarterly service. Everything in Essential with the site updates run weekly rather than monthly, plus performance health checks covering page speed, caching and image optimisation, SEO health checks covering search visibility, indexing and schema, and database optimisation. Most people land here.
+£420/year
Gold Care, add on
A content change every month, one at each monthly service. Everything in Silver including the weekly site updates, plus a performance report every month and a quarterly SEO review with specific actions. New pages and design work are quoted separately.
+£900/year
Mailboxes
A 2GB managed mailbox with spam filtering. Add or remove them whenever you need to.
£72/year each
Hosting is the base that every site sits on. A care plan is optional and sits on top of it, so Silver Care works out at £715 a year all in. WordPress keeps itself patched for security, and plugins can be set to update themselves too. What neither of them does is check the site still works afterwards, and that is where most problems start. A small change means a text edit, a new image, updated opening hours or prices, or an extra section on a page you already have. Anything needing new design or development is quoted before it starts. Changes go in at your scheduled service rather than on demand, so they are tested and go out safely. If you are happy as you are, nothing has to change.
What is always included
A fixed, itemised quote before anything starts, so there are no surprises later.
One person on the whole job. You deal with me start to finish, not an account manager.
An honest steer. If something is overkill for where your business is, I will say so rather than sell it to you.
You own everything at the end of it.
Things people ask
How does my site stay safe and up to date?
WordPress looks after its own security patches, so that part happens on any site, and plugins can be set to update themselves as well. The catch is that an update can shift a layout, fall out with another plugin, or quietly stop something like your contact form working, and none of that announces itself. You can go weeks without knowing. A care plan is someone applying the updates carefully, looking at the site afterwards, and putting it right when one of them causes trouble.
Do I have to take a care plan?
No. Hosting works perfectly well on its own and plenty of people look after their own site. A care plan is there for when you would rather not think about it.
What if I need more than my plan includes?
You just ask. Anything beyond what is included is quoted before it starts, so you always know the cost first. There is never a surprise invoice at the end of the month.
How long will it take?
Most projects move quicker than people expect, and a simple website is usually four to six weeks from start to live.
Photography is one to two weeks from the shoot to your edited images. Film takes longer, because it goes to a specialist lab and their lead time varies.
Design can be a day for a single piece. A full identity, with revisions, is usually four to six weeks.
Bigger websites take longer, and one that has to talk to something else like a shop or a booking system can run into months. Where a project depends on another company’s system, it takes as long as that system takes, and I will tell you that at the start rather than partway through.
If you are working to a deadline, tell me and we can plan what is achievable together without compromising on the quality of the work.
You get a real date in your quote, not a guess. The thing that moves it most is how quickly words, pictures and feedback come back, so having your content ready will speed up the process.
How many rounds of changes are included?
Two, at each stage. On a brand that is two rounds on the concepts and two on the artwork. On a website it is a review of the design before the build, and a snag list after it.
Two rounds is enough to get something right. If you want to keep going beyond that, it is charged at £75 an hour, and I will always say so before that work starts rather than let it turn up on an invoice.
Do I own what you make?
Your website and your brand are yours. Once the final invoice is paid, the logo, the artwork and the site belong to you, and the domain and hosting accounts are in your name. If you ever move on, all of it goes with you.
Photographs work slightly differently, and this is the same across the industry. I keep the copyright and you get full commercial use: your website, your social media, print, press, for as long as you want. In practice you can use them for anything to do with your business. What it prevents is the pictures being sold on as stock or handed to another company as their own.
Commercial use covers your own marketing. Paid advertising campaigns and any use by another business are quoted separately.
Can I change care plan later?
Yes, in either direction, with thirty days notice. Upgrading can happen whenever you like and I invoice the difference for the rest of the year. Downgrading takes effect at your next renewal, so you keep everything you have already paid for until then.
If you are on hosting alone and want to add a care plan, that can start whenever suits you.
I chose a smaller package and now want more. Can I move up?
Yes. You pay the difference between the tiers, plus whatever the extra work itself needs. It is cheaper to move up during the build than to come back to it afterwards, so if you are unsure which one fits, say at the start and I will give you an honest answer.
